94 N.C. Volunteer Fire Depts. Share $500K in Grants

By Sydney Basden, WCTI12:

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey says Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina has donated $500,000 to assist rural fire departments across North Carolina.

Causey says the money, a part of the company’s Rural NC Initiative for 2020, has been deposited in the nonprofit North Carolina Firefighters Fund. The money has been made available to volunteer fire departments that received less than $50,000 from municipal and county governments; officials say it will be used for safety equipment purchases to help protect firefighters amid the coronavirus pandemic.
